The diseases of the wood are one of the biggest worries of the winegrowers and technicians, being able to cause in Spain an estimated annual losses in about about 535 million of pounds.

Not in vain these fungal pathologies are possibly the biggest problem that affects the cultivation of the vine today and therefore are considered as the phylloxera of the 21st Century (Smart 2013). The most addressed issue today is, why does it seem that its presence has increased over the past decade? Or why do we currently have a greater knowledge of the fungal species involved in the degrading process of wood?

This knowledge is given by the improvement of the methods of diagnosis and identification, if to this we unite the older age of the vineyards, the long cycle of life that present some of the fungi that cause them being able to spend several years since the penetration of the themselves until the onset of the first symptoms, drastic pruning in some cases to change the conduction systems, as well as the elimination of some plant protection products that controlled certain diseases, we find that their Presence has become more evident.
